This workshop will focus on the concepts of Neurodiversity, Neurodivergence, and Disability as they relate to interpreters and the communities in which we live and work. Systems Thinking and Identity Theory are leveraged in order to have frank discussions that lead to big revelations. Through the use of translanguaging pedagogy and a neurodivergent affirming environment, participants will be encouraged to bravely take on what is likely a new world of understanding. Foundational concepts will be defined, common myths will be busted, and an introduction to Neurodiversity will be laid out. Finally, Participants will be supported to look internally and identify how they are connected to the systems they are a part of. Identity concepts will be explored, and what it means to identify oneself as “other,” different…divergent. And how the discomfort of others plays into these systems |
