Interpreting Experience: 17 years

Certifications: NIC, NJDoE Standard Certificate: Educational Interpreter - Sign Language

Experience/Expertise: K-12, religious, VRS, weddings

About me: I am a graduate of Ocean County College’s Interpreter Training Program. I worked as an educational interpreter in K-12 for ten years. During that time, I also worked part-time for a video relay company. Along the way, I have also done freelance interpreting, and continue to do so. I completed my BAS degree in Sign Language Interpreting in 2012 and started working on my master’s degree soon after. While working on my master’s degree, I began teaching as an adjunct professor in OCC’s ITP - the same program that I graduated from! It is there that I fell in love with teaching. I began teaching full-time at OCC in 2014 and completed my M.Ed. in 2015.

Working in the field of ASL - English interpreting has added so much to my life! Not only did I meet my husband, Nick, who is Deaf, but I have made life-long friends, worked harder than I ever thought I would and gotten more satisfaction out of that work than I ever dreamed imaginable. Deaf consumers deserve to have the best interpreting services and mentorship is just one way we can all strive to be the best.

Mentorship: I am able to work via video samples of work, consultation, and when available during interpreting assignments.

Fun Facts: I have two sons. My older son lives with his wife in Bloomfield, and my younger son lives in Austin, Texas. I’ve been married to my husband, Nick, for almost 15 years. My daughter-in-law framed a map of New Jersey and made beer glass push pins so we can map the breweries that we go to.
